Botox® / Dysport®

Botox® / Dysport® is a medication, a purified protein manufactured in a pharmaceutical laboratory. It works by relaxing the wrinkle causing muscles under the skin, allowing the wrinkles to fade away leaving facial expression free of lines or at least significantly less lined.

It is also a highly successful treatment to beautifully contour the lower face, which are commonly known as square jaw, and create a slim, feminine jaw.

The Procedure:

Botox® / Dysport® is placed in the facial muscles via tiny injection using a very fine needle. The pain associated with this procedure is minimal.

No local anesthetic is required and you will be able to resume normal activities immediately.

After injection, it takes 2-3 days for the Botox® / Dysport® to begin taking effect and up to 7 days to see the full effect.

Skin Deep…

For the tiny muscles that lie beneath the skin to contract, electrical signals are sent from the brain to the muscle telling the muscle to contract.

The electrical message is transmitted to the muscle across the nerve ending by a substance called acetylcholine.

The results in the reduction of signals telling those muscles to contract.

Side Effects and Safety:

Common side effects are restricted to minor and temporary redness, swelling or bruising at the injection site. Very rare temporary laziness of an eyelid or mild double-vision has been reported.

These effects are temporary, lasting one or two weeks and recovering spontaneously, and will occur if the injections are inappropriately placed.

Cosmetic treatment with Botox® / Dysport® is very safe in that there are no major or harmful side effects and Botox® has been in use for over 30 years to treat a variety of medical conditions.
